Hello everyone,
I'm after some advice please, I need your expertise.
I live in a housing association property and need to know what I'm talking about, since they don't seem to.
The house has a multifuel stove with back boiler in the living room which supplies 7 radiators and an immersion cylinder. The cylinder is located in a tiny airing cupboard in my son's room.
The radiator for my son's room is next to the airing cupboard and I've discovered it's called an excess heat radiator, and therefore had no TRV, so his room became unbearably hot even in winter, requiring the window to be open and a fan on to sleep. The rest of the house will be around 21C. His room might be 26C.
I asked the housing association if they could do anything about the radiator in my son's room, explaining about the excessive heat.
They sent lads around who phoned "someone who understands these systems" and after discussion with this person, they alter the plumbing so the landing radiator outside my son's room becomes the excess heat radiator, and the one in my son's room is connected to the same system as the other radiators and given a TRV.
After they left yesterday, I got a fire going and found the landing radiator (now the excess heat one) doesn't heat up.
I've linked two pictures I've drawn showing the original layout and the altered one as far as I can tell.
The new plumbing to the landing radiator runs under my son's bedroom floor coming up into the very limited space in the airing cupboard next to the cylinder.
I've re-exposed the floor as the lads they sent didn't bother to screw back down some floorboards, and others only had a couple of screws instead of the original 6 or 8.
Pictures speak a thousand words, so I've also included some photos taken this evening showing the airing cupboard in the bedroom, the original excess heat radiator, and the landing radiator.
Is there a way to get it working as it should without the bedroom one becoming the excess heat radiator again?
