hi........... i have just had a new fireplace fitted. it is a gas fire / log effect and it is a lot wider than the old gas fire. i have noticed there is a hell of a lot of updraft and it is drawing heat out of the room. i realise there must be upraft on a chimney, but i would like to cut it down. would a cowl be effective ?
cheers

There are cowls that will control air flow and moderate excessive updraft.
I think the AM(air manager) is one, the guys on the plumbing forum, could well point you in the right direction.
