I am remodelling my very small (23m2) second-floor apartment and have had some comments back from building control on the proposed design. The first is a request to "ensure cooking facilities are cured remote of the exit path as remote from the kitchen living diner space"

I called Building Control today but they have said they cannot give me a specific distance of what constitutes "remote" as this could cross over into design work.

From doing some research, it seems that 1.8m is often considered a remote distance. The design does not allow this as the room's door and oven would be within 1.8 metres of each other. There is a possible redesign I could do which should (hopefully) just about put 1.8 metres of distance between the room's door and the oven however, one of the room's exit path would still pass within 1.8 metres of the oven as I understand paths should be drawn. Though I could obviously avoid passing this near the oven if I needed to leave the room in the case of fire.

I am including images of both layouts. Does anyone have experience with exit paths and what is considered suitably "remote" and whether one plan is likely to pass regs when the other would?

And to substantiate this to building regs, do I just need to supply a similar drawing as the attached, or something else?
