Experience of importing windows/doors from America?

I know of someone who has imported metal framed windows and doors from America, rather than go for the hideous PVC double glazed variety for his house.

Any else had experience of this? As far as I know the quality and cost is better.

I have had some bits and pieces from

who do stuff for doors and windows, i have some that are discontinued over here but still used over there.

I don't suppose they will have got any Europeans standards or type approvals though.
