Extending a flue

I have an old Appolo 50 where the flue goes out directly though the rear wall

Never had a problem with it but the gas board after a service have advised me that it is now not safe to open a bedroom window close to the exhaust.

Is it possible/legal to remove the outer cowel and extend the flue and turn it up above roof level 6' approx
