The UK home secretary, Priti Patel, has defended anti-terrorist police for putting the Extinction Rebellion environmental protest group on a list of extremist ideologies, saying it was important to look at “a range of security risks”.

XR has threatened legal action after the Guardian revealed it had been placed on a list of ideologies that should be reported to the authorities running the Prevent anti-radicalisation programme. Police now say that was an error.

So what do we categorise MPs like Priti who had secret meetings with foreign Governments?

Vegans next? Or perhaps people protesting against Corporate Tax Practices?

That the process to identify extremist groups is so badly broken that a young person who has strong views about climate change should be treated as if they are exposing Neo Nazi rhetoric is pretty damning.

If it wasn't made public and pushed through then what was the motive? The fact it shows how Prevent can be abused is something the Public should be aware of, or you think tranparency is not required.
