Hi,

I have just purchased a new extractor fan and am having trouble trying to install it. Basically, im not the most experienced when it comes to electrics so forgive me if i need things explained.

The model I have is a timer model which is replacing just a standard extractor fan that comes on when the light comes on. I've connected the live (red) to the Permanent Live Socket and the Neutral (blue) to the Neutral socket. Theres a third socket called 'Switched live' which has no wire going into it. When I turn it on nothing happens.

Theres a part in the instructions which I dont understand which maybe causing the problem? It reads: "A double fused spur having a contact separation of at least 3mm in all poles must be used with a 3 amp fuse and be sited outside any room containing a fixed bath."

Can someone tell me what this means or tell me what I am doing wrong?

If you want the fan to work when the light comes and then overrun for period after the light has been turned off.
Sounds like you need to down fuse to 3Amp using an Fuse connection unit, You may also need a fan isolator and you also need three core and earth cable rather than twin and earth.
