This is for my diploma project. When adding a f.s.u on a ring circuit do i need to make any calculations or we just say it should be 2.5mm and thats it?

There's nothing to calculate unless you're extending the ring beyond the maximum permissible floor area. Somebody around here will know what this is; I've forgotten.

Here's a minor point since this is for a project that will be marked. I know every electrician and his dog uses 2.5mm (or just 2.5 milli) cable but think about it; you don't measure area in millimetres. That cable is 2.5 SQUARE mm. This bit of pedantry might just earn you an extra mark.

Thanks comms. I knew where I was when it was 1000 square feet!

Max floor area for a ring is 100mtrs SQ
Well - to continue the pedantry theme, it's not 100 metres square, it's 100 square metres. Confusingly this is written 100m², but when written or spoken as "100m square" you are actually defining an area of 100m x 100m, i.e. 10,000 square metres, 10000m².....
