Can someone confirm that a switched FCU doesn't count as a "switch" for the puposes of the sockect/switch height accessibility building regs? I can't find anything that specifically mentions FCUs. The appliance (additional lighting in an integral garage) will be controlled by a separate switch at an appropriate level.

It's irrelevant anway. The requirement for accesories to be accessible to disabled persons (Part M) is only enforceable in new builds. And if, as you say, there is to be a separate switch at a wheelchair-friendly height then you've covered all the bases.

Ah ... I'd misinterpreted it as "new installations". Re-reading some of the older threads that makes sence.

Thanks. Apologies for the repetition.

personally i always think its better parctice to use a SFCU rather than a seperate FCU and switch

easier to tell whats going on that way

There are a couple of lights that I want to run - each will have it's own on/off with a SFCU to isolate the lot.

Also I think I've heard the opposite view expressed on here (surprise!) that it's better to have a separate switch, even if the FCU is switched. I think the reason was something like "'cos the FCU isn't meant as an 'everyday switch'"?
