Hello

I was wondering if you fine chaps and chapesses can help?

I bled my radiators today and subsequently had to refill my Ferroli 701 with more water. Except the flaming thing refused to fill. I took the refill loop off and all seemed fine. Anyway, after much faffing, I finally managed to get it to fill up.

I fired up the boiler and got rubbish water pressure all through the house and realised I hadn't turned the mains supply back on fully. Obviously, as you can tell, I am an expert at plumbing :?

So, after all that I fired up the boiler again, hot and cold running water running throughout. Beating my chest like an baboon in celebration of my alpha-male status, I then realised that the boiler would only send hot water when it was fired for central heating. So when the boiler is lying dormant and I request hot water (even when it is set to hot water on demand)... nothing. All the boiler sends is the hot water it has produced, but once that has run out, it sends cold water. The only way I can get constant hot water is waiting for the boiler to start, then turn the hot tap

Why is this and is there anything I have done above, which would cause such a problem?

The floor is, as they say, yours.

What lights you got on the front panel ?

Oh yeah, probably would be helpful!

It's

Green, unlit, unlit, unlit, Red, unlit

That is boiler on constant, but lying dormant with no hot water taps on

Green, unlit, unlit, Green, unlit, unlit

That is the boiler on hot water only - but no hot water tap on

Green, unlit, unlit, unlit, Green, unlit

That is the boiler on hot water only - with hot water tap on

Green, unlit, Amber, Green, unlit, Amber

That is when the boiler is firing and is providing central heating (and hot water!)

Looks like the flow switch isint recognising the demand, easy to link out 1 and 3 on the switch to prove its the culptit.

Ok, thanks for your reply. So - and I aplogise if this is a massively moronic question - but what do I need to do? Or is this a 'call a plumber' moment?

Yep time to call someone that repairs boilers, its not a big job so shouldent be that expensive.

Just an update.

Looked at the flowmeter that Picasso pointed to and checked the electrical contacts. All looked fine, until I re-seated it and realised one wire had corroded and snapped at the connection end of the flowmeter.

Went to Maplins this afternoon and bought an identical connector and some crimps. Remade the connector and put it back in the boiler. Fired it up, switched it to hot water only and hey presto, the boiler fired. Total cost? £1.48.

Picasso, thank you everso much for your guidance last night. Superstar.
