Ferroli Programmer Problem / Project Solution

I have a Ferroli Optima 901 with the standard 24 Hour timer. I have had the timer replaced twice as it keeps randomly resetting itself / incrementing the minutes as if they were seconds!

I am looking to replace the current timer with a home made device to connect to the PC / CH and run a program to control the switching of the CH. I have no problem with the software side of things I just wonder if anyone had any ideas on the hardware interface or can point me in the right direction of similar projects. Any ideas or suggests might be helpful.

you can use the room stat connections on the botton of the electrics panel (if not being used by a room stat) to do the switching of the ch or the switch wires of the timer
dunno what would interface between the boiler and the pc though
