hi,
I am looking to soundproof a separating floor. I intend to install a floating floor overlay.
1. I have old carpet tiles that I am thinking of installing underneath the floating floor. They would add 5kg per square meter, and have a rubbery (bitumen?) backing. I feel like they are worth adding. Can anybody confirm or deny my suspicion?
2. Is it a crazy idea to install the floating floor inside the perimeter of the already installed skirting board? (Rather than removing skirting, and install floor beneath)?
3. Is acoustic insulation between the joists, really significantly better acoustically, than a large amount of thermal fiberglass insulation?
4. The floor in question has already failed an acoustic test by quite a large degree. Is there some very rough, DIY way of testing the acoustic insulation, to have some ballpark idea of whether the floor may pass another (expensive) acoustic test? I do own a basic decibel meter.
