Hi sorry if this is in the wrong thread but i am new and this is my first post.

My problem is that my boiler broke down about a week ago and i got an engineer to diagnose that the fan assembly was knackered and i replaced it today. However, when the system is on it keeps igniting itself and i was wondering if anyone has any advice. I have priced a replacement pcb from a well known online company and i don't wish to pay over £100 again for a part. is it worth getting a new boiler or replacing parts to keep it going.

cheers and i look forward to your replies

An engineer diagnosed it - and you changed it?

yes mate i changed it myself. its not that hard a job to do i feel and the engineer wanted 2 hours labour @ £35 plus vat. It only took 20 mins to do plus i have just been paid off and have no money to spend.

Sounds like you have replaced it wrong.

Perhaps if you had the engineer who told you what was wrong
actually fix it you would now have a working boiler.

Instead of wasting the guys time and fuel.

hold on a wee minute pal. i didnt waste the guys time or fuel. the engineer said to me the quote and i dithered on it as he had taken £65 from me just for the call out alone. he then said that i could fit it myself if i wanted to as it wasn't a hard job to do. i think the guy just wanted home as it was september weekend. so see before you jump the gun, ask what the engineer said and quoted.
and i quote again i have no money and have just been paid off from my job. i have a 2 month old girl and a 3 year old girl and we need heating and hot water. see if you cant say anything constructive and helpful to a matter of importance, **** off. your wasting my time.

Your REALLY going to get help with that attitude!
Oh and ps your not qualified, by law, to open combustion chamber and fit fan.
You have probably dislodged inner flue and are now causing flame to smother constantly and spewing incomplete combustion of products all over the place. (this means Carbon Monoxide by the way) well done you have now put your young family at risk.
Sorry for your money circumstances but that's not an excuse for putting your families life at risk.
How much is broadband a month these days?

Sorry,
Sounds like the engineer was a bit of a rip off merchant.
Check hoses, no holes cracks, check flue , flue that everything looks ok.

Actually waiting for stroppy here to say what the fault is.

A boiler is suppose to ignite during a call for heat:

However, when the system is on it keeps igniting itself

Perhaps after a little attitude readjustment/cooling off he can post back with something constructive.

So YOU are a qualified gas safe engineer and you got someone out to fix your boiler??
I don't get it. You could have went online got classic servicing instructions. Also any engineer worth his salt would know the symptoms you are describing.
