Im redoing my patio, there is an old soakaway, that was filled with bricks / rubble etc. It never soaked away and was basically full of water.

The surrounding soil is clay and drainage is a nightmare, so ive opted for drainage that runs into a sump and will get pumped away.

Anyhow, we took out the old bricks and rubble from the soakaway hole and filled it with some of what we had dug out for the patio. Now ive realised that obviously that wasn't a good idea, as the hole has taken in the recent rain and then i had a muddy wet soft square surrounded by dry clay!

So ive dug all that back out...

Whats best to fill this soakaway hole with? Concrete it?

The new drainage channel runs straight over where this hole is so don't want it to drop away underneath!
