Filling in ceiling cracks - which product?

I removed old ceiling paper to discover some ceiling cracks.

Someone told me they (many years ago) had ceiling cracks and filled them in with a 'filla product. Though the cracks opened up again.

They then used a mastic-type product (which allowed some movement) and the cracks never opened up again.

Would anyone care to suggest a mastic-type product which I could try?

The decorators caulk - I've seen this type of product.

It seemed like a 'filla type of product, like plaster - not like a rubber finish.

So I wasn't sure if this would give the same type of flexibility as a rubber-type mastic product.

I can't understand why someone has suggested a mastic/rubber type filler for a ceiling; for cracks in roads, or floor concrete yes.

I suppose it's because when they did this the ceiling cracks never appeared again. They filled them perhaps 25 years ago. The rubber-type mastic having flexibility whereas the 'filla-type product they used before this must not have had the ability to flex and so cracks had reappeared.
