Hi All,

I am trying to fit some spotlights to a loop in system that comes from a double switch. I thought that I can keep the original ceiling rose up and fit the bracket underneath it, and I think that this will work. The question I have is that if I keep the same ceiling rose then do I just need to connect the live and neutral wires from the spotlights to the old ceiling rose? The spotlight has a earth wire that is connected to the actual unit and then to a connector box on the actual light...so I need to attach this to the ceiling rose in anyway?

Connect the live and neutrals of the spot light fitting to the same place as the live and neutral of the old light fitting.

The earth should terminate to the earth that should be terminated on the rose earth connection, normally at the oppersite end of the rose to the live neutral and switched live connectors.

Thanks for the response. Just one last quick question...the earth that is on the spotlight fitting is attached to the actual spotlight casing and the leads to a connector box (dont know if this is the right name for it but the plastic bit with the screws to attach the wires!!) on the fitting should I then unscrew the wire from the spotlight fitting and connect this to the ceiling rose?

Earth needs to link the chassis of the fitting to the earth provided at the ceiling rose. Take off the connector block from the fitting and terminate this end on the earth at the ceiling rose.
