Fixing issue with the main door

Hello,

Just a bit of background: I have recently moved to a new (unfurnished) place and as part of this I ordered quite a bit of Ikea furniture. Since the flat is brand new and the floor is made of wood, I thought it would be a good idea to protect it prior to the delivery date, so I spread some cardboard all around the place.

All good for now. Since I couldn't do the same at the entrance (where the building hall meets my door) I just put some duct tape on top of it. Unfortunately when I took that piece of duct tape off, part of the paint (or whatever that is) came along with it.

I need to fix this. However I am by no means an expert on these matters, in fact, I have no idea. So I would really appreciate any kind of information. Is it paint? Is it varnish? I'm not sure what the material is on top of that piece of wood. How can I fix it conserving the color that was there?

Looks like varnish light mahogany colour at a guess, sand it down and re-varnish use a water based so it is quick drying otherwise you will get loads of dust in an area like that before it dries.

Ideally there are varnishes for floors that wear a bit better but any will do al long as you don't mind redoing after a couple of years.

I will try that then. It is OK even if there are better varnishes, the most important thing really is that it looks as it were, or the closest possible (so that it's consistent with the rest of the flats in the development, which is brand new as I mentioned).

Should be fine assuming that as you say it is wood (it looks like it has a grain) just try a little bit first to see how deep the colour comes up.

By the way I'm impressed your shoes match the carpet!

I'll get the material over the weekend and see how it goes, once all the furniture is built
