Hi all,

I'm looking for a bit of help/guidance.

We've decided to have the wall taken out between the small kitchen and the dining room, I'll get someone in to do that part then I'll put a new floor down and new kitchen.

I ripped up the tiles from the kitchen floor and although the first few came up nice and easy which left a very level floor, the rest didn't!

1. What's the best way to take the self levelling compound off the Red tiles underneath so I can lay the Karndean joining on from.the hallway and dining room (when the wall has been taken out) (see photo).

2. Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Regards
Simon

You be better using ardex na over that now if the adhesive is solid
Hi Dazlight, quick question, if Arsex NA is just a self levelling compound, why not use a No Nonsense version?

Cheers

Lots of reasons and the main one is because it’s crap.
It won’t stick properly due to being a water mix and not a latex screed.
It’s not moisture tolerant which you need with that sub floor.
Ardex na is the best for that type of sub floor as it’s a bag and bottle ( latex )

Others you can use
Mapei na
Uzin L3 gold
Kerakoll proflow smooth

Also you most probably need to use an epoxy Dpm over the 1st coat of smoothing compound as that subfloor won’t have a visqueen Dpm sheet I’d guess.

What year was the house built.

I'm guessing it's a 1930's built house.

1. Use grinding cup to take as much adhesive off the tiles as possible.
2. Use Ardex na
3. Paintable DPM
4. Second thin coat of Ardex na
4. Lay Karndean

Use Ardex DPM it’s good practice not to mix manufacturers products with sandwich Screed/DPM.
