I need to put down some flooring in my loft, is this just a simple case of laying chipboard across the joists ?

i assume we are talking light storage !!

what size are the timbers
at what centres !!
what is the unsupported span underneath

I'm no tradesman, so bear with me:

What size are the timbers - are you meaning the joists that go along the floor/ceiling ?

At what centres - Dont know if its 400mm or 600mm

what is the unsupported span underneath - do you mean the ceilings in the rooms underneath ?

well measure it then!

timbers size is the things that hold the ceiling up

unsupported span is the distance they run between supporting walls.

Also is it a fairly modern house with timbers arranged in a W shape

A photo or two would help a lot

if its general light storage just lay your chipboard down.there is a small allowance built into the truss design for light storage.
