When I purchased mu latest there was no boiler as it was ripped out by the previous owners before they were repossessed.

I have all the pipe work still there but I do not know what is the flow or return - i'm going to start fitting brand new rads and use Drayton TRV 4s.

Does it really matter that that I fit the TRVs on the same flow or return?

Cheers

Fit Honeywell's mate, if you want a TRV as trouble free as you can get.
Either VT117 or VT200 models - both should be bi-directional.
Expect to pay around £9 +Vat & £15 + Vat
Well worth the money

Siemens are a brilliant TRV and cheap to, around a fiver + VAT.

The only problem I have with them is that the tail is about 1/4" too long compared to others so can cause grief when fitting as replacements.

New installs no problems.
