Fluke volt sticks

I have three Fluke volt sticks, which I have had for quite a few years, and an even older, less sophisticated RS volt stick (just red LED, no tone). Recently, two of the Flukes failed, flashing when switched on, but no detection, no tone. One still works normally, as does the old RS unit. Anyone else having Flukes fail like this?

I have had failures when they have been knocked or banged, think the reed switch got damaged, and latter units have four stages, so can't be using the seems method as the old ones,

the NCV is just one of the options on my clamp meter.

I am SO old school I still like and mainly rely on my trusty Drummond pygmy lamp tester on live circuits.

Which usually involves opening things up, to gain access, whereas, a volt stick can do a quick check, with no dismantling.

As I said, I'm old school (very old) and a good delving usually gets me to the seat of the problem so that remedial action can be instigated. Not that I become involved much since passing everything to my family, but I still like to be consulted on a difficult poser, especially with control cabinets.

I was going to sing the praises of the NCV detector built into the clamp-on meter, so got it out to take a picture, and it shows my laptop is live. Even with power supply unplugged, but in the main moving from zero to 4 bars allows one to work out the centre of the cable, far easier than simple on/off.
