Ford escort mk6 knocking sound

Hi everyone,my ford escort has started making a knocking sound on the nearside front when going over bumps and also the steering feels and sounds a bit ropey,could any one offer some advice as to what it could be? Thanks.

I'd have a look at the wishbone first, and check track rod ends too.
