Ford Fiesta Steering wheel not straight !

This concerns my son's Fiesta which is a 1993 1.1.
Yesterday I had a complete new set of tyres fitted, after which I noticed that when the car was pointing straight, the steering wheel was 'pointing' slightly to the left. Straightening the wheel produced a swerve to the right. I first tried it lock to lock but could detect no play or movement. So I thought take off the steering wheel and replace it a spline or two clockwise. BUT it's not on splines - it's on a hexagon fitting - so no fine adjustment there !
Does anyone know why the steering wheel might have become misaligned ? All suggestions welcome 'cos I'm baffled.

Was the tracking adjusted when the new tyres were fitted? If the track rod end on only one side was "adjusted" the tracking would be OK but offset to one side as you describe. The remedy is to shorten one side and lengthen the other an equal amount.
