ford focus 1.8 zetec cut out wont start

hi, i have a 1.8 zetec focus s reg which died on me whilst driving, i tried to restart but with no luck, when you turn it over only the starter motor spins but when in gear and turning it over the car jolts, when it died i had no warning lights and juddering, has anyone got any ideas on this before i spend out for some one to have a look.

This could be absolutely anything, fuel system related, ignition system or broken timing belt ??. Sorry, but you're going to have to find someone to look at it.
