Hey there
I'm currently trying to work out the "best" way of handling the framing and finish for a door opening between our new kitchen and utility.
The opening will end up about 295mm deep, which consists of a 215mm block on face wall, plus 25mm battens and 15mm pb + skim on both sides.
The three options I can think of are:
1. Buy a deep mdf door lining, setting the door flush to one side of the wall and then architrave both sides. This keeps things simple, as there's no extra plasterboarding or plaster required.
2. Frame a "standard" depth door lining to sit flush with one side, and then have a return on the other side big enough for architrave. However this gets more complicated to board and plaster.
3. Option 2, but set the door lining in the middle of the opening, thereby adding a return on both sides. Again, lots of extra board, plaster and corners to contend with...
Of the 3, I'm leaning towards option 1 as it keeps things simple and clean. The only downside is that have to special order the door lining to suit.
So Yeh, thoughts or opinions, or any other options I've missed?
Thanks in advance.
Gavin
