On the look out to get more up to date with disk imaging - Came upon this ...

Macrium said:
...The fastest disk imaging software is now available as a free edition.
...The only free XP and Vista compatible disk imaging software with BartPE and Linux based recovery options.

'Cut down' version .. But appears to have the essentials.

Accessing images with Windows Explorer looks interesting...
For Norton Ghost 2003 we use 'Ghost Explorer'.

The recovery stuff could be useful too.

Anybody have knowledge of this software???

Tested on my Dell ... Worked very well.
Disk 1 Three partitions Dell utility : C: : Dell restore

Imaged to 2nd HDD in 11 mins medium compression (default)... on the fly
Verify image worked ok.

Can mount images view and copy contained files using Win file explorer.. tested ok.

Created boot cd - Bart-PE - Followed Macrium Help guidance (+links), used Win Xp Pro Dell Reinstallation CD as win files source ( had warning on oem disk use ) Ignored that - Perfect job.
Booted with CD opened Macrium all worked as expected.

Macrium Raw data 38 GB Image 26.9 GB time 11 mins from XP Pro.
Norton Ghost 2003 Image 27.6 Gb time 27.5 mins via dos.

Slip that in the toolbox !

Cheers for the tip. I'm looking to reinstall my system soon and was on the looky for something like this, so I can image the freshly installed and patched system. Will give it a spin.

I tried the Linux emergency start up cd build, cd built ok, booted ok, but then hung... Macrium Reflect 4.2 had advised this process may not work using OS M$ XP.. Correct, it did not work.
The alternative Bart-PE CD build was faultless .... Links to PE-Builder for necessary download - ok.
I used a RW CD for the testing, when proven I built to WORM CD... re-tested ok.
My first Bart-PE build... chuffed at that... Worth trying the software just to accomplish the build during which other options for utilities are tick box listed. Reflect being one of the default items.

The beauty of Norton Ghost 2003 - it utilises dos OS, therefore host OS independent... I boot that from a USB floppy drive, seems very dependable - if archaic.
Dell - out of the box - has booted successfully from each valid source listed ---
