Hi
I've got a hot point frost free fridge freezer, it's in flat rented to tenants. The fridge part is iced as in pic attached. It's set to the lowest 1. There is a manual switch, photo and function from manual are also attached. Any ideas?
Thanks

Faulty thermostat maybe. Just keeps cooling.
Can you hear pump 24/7

Most common cause is user error, not closing door or obstructing door , with door partially open the fridge builds up frost from air entering .
Once frost builds it stops the fan and frost build up increases.
Defrost and check door seals are in good order and fridge is level ( or door can swing open or fail to close ).
Another cause can be blocked circulation pipes causing a cold spot to form , repair often not viable.

Would the fridge section get iced if the fast freeze button is pressed all the time? I am going there tomorrow to check ...

Even though your Hotpoint fridge freezer is labeled "frost free," the ice buildup at the back of the fridge compartment (as seen in your photo) suggests the auto-defrost system isn't working properly. This could be due to:
  1. Blocked air vents – It’s packed in there, and airflow is key. If cold air can’t circulate, moisture condenses and freezes on the back panel.
  2. Faulty defrost heater or sensor – If these fail, frost builds up behind the panel, eventually leaking into the fridge area.
  3. Door not sealing properly – Warm, humid air sneaks in and freezes on the coils.
  4. Setting too low – Even though it's on "1", sometimes the thermostat sensor malfunctions and overcools. That dial might not be accurately regulating the temp anymore.

What to do now:
  • Manually defrost the fridge (turn it off and let it fully thaw).
  • Check the door seal and make sure nothing is blocking the vents inside.
  • If the ice returns quickly, it's likely a failed defrost sensor or heater, and you'd need a tech to check the internal components.

I tried everything then called HOTPOINT to have a look, the engineer said fault in the insulation which is at the back of fridge compartment, beyond repair. They didn't charge for the call out; fair play.
