My 18 year-old Bosch fridge/freezer has stopped working. The freezer high-temp alarm light is on. Motor is hot and runs intermittently. The heat sink grid on the back is cold.
Any opinions about whether it's likely to be repairable? I've heard about no-repair, no fee deals, but of course I want to get it fixed or replaced before the food goes off.

If it's that old it's almost certainly way less efficient than anything current so was probably worth replacing anyway.

Well past it’s useful life , replace .
Why do you say that? Our separate Bosch fridge & freezer are still working perfectly after 23+ years. Spares are still available so I can't see any reason to replace them. I do ,maintain them well though.

What maintenance do you do on them?

A 2000-era fridge freezer consumes about a third more electricity than it's modern counterpart and it's a appliance that runs 24/7 so that's over 50 quid a year. It's a choice to keep it running and take the hit but given the avoided cost of a repair it's hard to see how this wouldn't cover it's own costs pretty quickly if it breaks unless it's something very very cheap.

Regular defrost & hoover the back of freezer, clean inside & again remove debris from the rear of the fridge, check door hinges & seal regularly.
OK thanks. Mine's auto defrost but otherwise I've done that. Occasionally had to poke out the water release hole in the fridge section.
