Can you drill with a long thin masonary drill through the mortar, if you have got a cavity the drill will bounce through the inner wall, if it does then you can measure the cavity thickness. Is it facing brickwork on the outside

Hello,
The gap varies up the wall and is never no more than 2inch wide.
I have just recently had the older rotten joists replaced and damp proofed and the floor leveled out. The builder also fitted 3 new air bricks the kind that step downwards.
Hopefully this will keep out the damp better.
