Fungus in the grass

I have this "mushroom" type stuff in my grass. I have 2 questions -

1. What is it?
2. How do I get rid of it?

Anything that I use to get rid of it must be "Cat friently", otherwise "The Boss" will have me hung, drawn & quartered if anything happens to her pussy!

I'll try and load a couple of pictures - The one with the glove is to give some idea of scale.

I don't think that is a fungus, maybe algae, or Nostoc. I refrained from making a smutty 'Carry On' style remark.
