Fuse box tripping?

They started at the fuse box and started working outwards from there. They were tracing the first point, isolating it and then doing some tests with their equipment.

They were acting on information I gave them which I got from the first guy that came. Like when he said the wiring in the living room and kitchen were fine so they checked everything as if it was the first time being inspected once they couldn't suss it out.

It then took longer because they put downstairs lights on the downstairs switch but then nothing worked. That's when their theory went out the window and thought it could be a shared neutral but it didn't even make sense to them. When they went to replace the switch they found that cable not connected to it and tucked behind some others.

So far hasn't tripped with kitchen light disconnected

They now think it could be a shared neutral. I asked if it was shared why would the upstairs not trip? One of the lads started drawing a diagram and was genuinely stumped. They gave me the money back they originally asked for.

A shared/borrowed neutral, would show up by tripping, the instant the light was turned on which was borrowing - so not that.
