My elderly SIL has a Garador Mk2 up and over garage door and from what she has told me one of the wires has snapped therefore she cannot open it luckily the car was out at the time. Before I travel 100 miles to attempt a repair as you do will the replacement wires for a Mk3 fit as I cannot find any replacements for the Mk2 on the net?. Is they any problem I should look for which may arise when doing the job?? Thanks for any replies.

Yes - those springs are under a lot of tension and are quite lethal if they suddenly let go. If it has actually snapped, it suggests it has been rubbing on something which has worn it through. Take along some stout rope to apply tension on the spring, so you can attach the new wire.

local independent repairer might be your best bet to save the trip neighbour was quoted about £80 including parts a few months ago.
