Garden Overhaul

hey all

I'm gonna overhaul my garden but i've got no idea how to price up how much materials i'll need for a small feature

its gonna be 3 brick high with coping stone on top

its 5ftx13ft but i dunno how to workout how much stuff i'll need for building it from the foundations up! lol

can someone help me kinda design that wee part?

i've got the turf,topsoil and bark sorted just need the wee wall so i can find out how much it'll cost me lol

a wee bit more description would help if possible? Is it going to be a low wall to form a rectangle which will then be a raised area or bed?

its a planter

in behind it will be soil and a standalone water feature

can anyone advise on foundations etc?

For a low wall like that i would dig the footings to a spades width and about 8 inches deep. Obviously more if you find the ground is very poor. Make the foundation 6 inches thick. So to calculate quantities of concrete mortar etc check out this page of calculators on paving expert.

For a planter line the inside of the bricks with polythene dpm to stop staining due to them being constantly wet.

so 4.28 meter long x 0.152 meter thick x 0.203 meter deep

is that correct?

paving expert says 0.1321m3 of concrete?

which then works out at

42kg of cement
83kg of sand
155kg of Gravel (Type 1?)
40L of water

is that corrent?

Sounds about right.

But by the way you want clean stone for making concrete not MOT type 1 which is a compactable hardcore with all sorts from 15mm - dust fines.

that sort of style 15ft x 2ft

long sides are 15ft and then top and bottom is 2ft

now i've got 2 like that, how much concrete will i need for either planter? its just single brick

i was gonna make the founds 6" thick and 2" deep
