Can somebody please tell me what is going on with my central heating system.

When the heating comes on first thing in the morning after about hald an hour I get this almighty noise coming from the header tank in the loft. The best way to describe it is as it there is a load of snow on the roof and it's sliding off, a kind of bubbling noise. This is proceeded by a buzzing from the pump. It happens first thing in the morning every other day or so. After that its fine, just the normal sounds from the pipes and rads.

Is it air? Is something on the way out? Can it be treated easily?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It's possible that its pumping over this is were water from the system enters the header tank via the open vent. The open vent is generally a curved pipe entering the top off the tank. When the noise occurs do you see water coming from this pipe? and afterwards is the water in the tank hot?

If so there may be a blockage such as at the cold feed. If this is the case then it will need unblocked possible a new pump and maybe a powerflush. Probably best to get a plumber in.

While youy are looking at it take a sample and see what colour it is.

Tont just tell us its brown, compare it with something we all know like black tea with the leaves or coffey with milk etc.

Thanks guys, I will take a look next time it happens. I have noticed the water to be a cloudy brown colour but will take another sample and try to be more specific.

Thanks again!
