I have a Brittania range with a gas hob. Today one of the controls is not sparking when pushed. All the other controls produce a spark so will ignite the non sparking unit. Whilst this is not a disaster, I'd like to know what may have caused the control to stop sparking and what I can do to remedy this.
Thanks in advance

Normally one of the igniters (the non firing one in your case ) has either broken or more likely contaminated. Remove the pan support and the burner ring and you should see the igniter sticking up. A white ceramic insulator and terminal in the middle of it. Clean it gently with an old toothbrush and wash the burner ring and flame spreader and ensure it makes good contact with the gas valve in the centre when you put it back. The spark should jump from the ignitor to the burner body.
