Hi guys ive had BG round to remove my gas meter as im doing work on this house for myself and thd old external meter cupboard is was cracked and broken

My plan was just to pry it off the wall and then in the future i could just slide a new box over the valve , however when i came to take the final bit off it seemed fixed in around the valve coupler

Ive spoke to the local gas network and they have said i must not remove the final bit of broken box as i could cause a gas leak

obv im not gonna loosen any nuts or the valve which they maybe though i was going to but by breaking off the rest of this white plastic do anyone really think it will cause any leak....

you wont cause a leak just break the bits off as none of the box forms any sort of seal with the gas service .
The black ring is possibly just like a big circlip holding pipe to box
Then you need a mark2 surface box when replacing it
