My question is:- What is the point of 'Gate Valves'?

In my experience they never shut off the water completely, unlike stopcocks or isolating valves, so what is the point of them?

Thanks,

Harvey

another 19th Century anacronism ...like the WC cistern Syphon

They don't obstruct the flow of water, when open.

Nige, thanks. Plenty of time for someone to have designed one that does the job then. :) ....

Thats your experience, I dont have a problem with them.......isolating valves howver do shut the water off but pee water out when older than 5 years and touched and you end up changing them anyway so whats the point of them. Wouldnt it be nice if all customers could afford gun metel stopcocks every time we had to fit a form of isoation.
