gears slipping / over revving

I

imamartian

Hi,

i have a audi A6 (diesel), and was on the motorway today and noticed that when travelling at speed (60....80mph e.g.) if i put my foot down, instead of pulling away, the rev counter went up from 3000 to 5000/6000 rpm without any difference in speed. It felt like the gears were slipping.

Only last week i had a leak on the drive shaft fixed... could that be related?

Any ideas anyone?
Many thanks

sorry, i meant to say clutch not gears....

and i thought as much...just a coincidence that it's days out of the garage..

unless the drive shaft oil leak has somehow contaminated the clutch friction material.

It's funny you say that because the stuff that leaked out of the car was not oil, it was clear odourless watery liquid... and they said it was a leak around the driveshaft?
