Generator silencing

A large insulated box sited away from property would reduce noise but the exhaust still has to be free of obstruction. If power outage is short lived a power inverter from a battery would be more suitable given the low wattage required.

I have to admit a decent UPS unit would proberbly have been as good for almost anywhere in the UK, better infact, as it would kickin automatically if your not there.

Otherwise I would go for putting the whole thing in a well ventilated box, as being aircooled a lot of noise will be coming from the enigne not the just exhaust. Otherwise you could do worse then try a old car silencer on it.
But box with a lid and some sort of a laberinth vent on it would be my choice, its got to cool itself through it though. Get a sheet of waterproof 15mm ply, some glass wool, old roofing lead, etc.

Just as well that I am in Los Angeles at the moment :)

It would need to be a rather large UPS as it is a saltwater tank running several pumps, skimmer, heaters, etc. I did consider it but nothing will keep it running as long as a generator will.

The same with an inverter - would just need to many batteries which have to be kept charged etc.

This way if the wife is at home and i am back in the UK she can just start it up and plug it in.

Most of the noise is definitely from the exhaust though.

Fair enough.

UPS is indeed just an inverter, charger, batteries in a nice box.

It`s a 2 stroke  . you`ll never get that quietened
