We have a problem. 1970's bungalow. There is a leak about 6 inches below the mains stopcock into the house. The supply pipe is black in colour and is sheathed in what looks like 1.5 waste (where is exits the concrete). The leak is apparent about 2 inches of the screed (covered by the outer pipe).

My questions:

What could have caused this? I am terrified the mains supply will be riddled with holes under the bungalow and soon we could be washed away!

Will my insurance company cover the damage(to kitchen),pipe repair and making good?

Is it worth repairing the pipe and if so how? THere is definately just 1 pin hole so I am hoping it is not just a deteriation in the plastic.

Help me DIYNOT.com youre my only hope ;o)

cheers

A quick cure for the leak is:- Get a piece of rubber (innertube type) and a jubilee clip, place rubber over pin hole and clamp in place with clip.

Now you can check with insurers on cover, or just leave it as a permanent cure 8)

Should cover the damage but probably not the repair to pipe.

Depends on what cover you have so give them a ring first. :D
