Hello
My living room is now looking lovely with its new coving (thank you Tex-Mex, Wonderdust and Masona!) but I now want to gloss-white the skirtings/architraves and door frames. I varnished these 6 years ago (in Ronseal Antique Pine) and like them well, but am thinking of sub-letting so now think I should do the 'Magnolia-and-white-gloss' thing.
Q: Will the varnish keep the resin out or should I rub down the knots and treat them with knotting solution?
advice, as always, appreciated
cheers

Varnish should keep out the resin from the knots but for 5 minutes extra work a layer of knotting is a good idea.

You will need to sand the varnish first to provide a key for the paint, then seal knots with knotting.
