GlowWorm Betacom 24c Condensing Boiler
Hi
Just got back from holiday to find my boiler not working
We left it on a medium temperature just to keep everything ticking over 2 weeks ago but when we got back the 90 light was flashing which usually means the condensate trap has earthed.
I whipped the blue cap off the trap and dried the metal prongs and popped everything back and all seemed great but slowly I noticed we weren't getting warmer. I went back to the boiler expecting the same fault as sometimes it fails twice before running for months without problems.
When I got to the boiler though it still looked to be working fine but the rads were stone cold. I watched the boiler for a few minutes and noticed that it was up to temperature but then the burners went out and the temperature lights starting going off one by one like it had been switched off. Then the burners ignited again and the temperature begin to rise again. It got up to temperature and went off again and it just repeats this cycle over and over.
The pump has a slight vibration like it is working which I bled a little but there didn't seem to be any air come out just a trickle of water so I nipped that back up.
Its as if its cutting out because its up to temperature but surely it would cut back in without all the temperature lights going back out first if it was a thermostat or something. I would expect it to start up as soon as the temperature dropped slightly.
It runs for a few minutes in total (depending on the temp that it is set at) and it takes about a minute for all the lights to go back out and then switch off before starting up again.
The pump gets very hot, the flow pipe gets very hot and the return pipe gets warmer but only luke warm.
If I switch the boiler over to hot water only and run the hot tap the hot water runs no problem, boiler stays lit like there is nothing wrong. So it does just look like a heating issue.
The condensing trap error may have happened the minute we walk out of the door so it could have sat doing nothing for 2 weeks which makes me think something could have got stuck as usually we run it all day 7am - 10pm in the winter.
Any ideas greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Scott
