Hi all, well firstly this is all new to me, ive just joined this site and am a complete DIY novice and by no means any expert.

My girlfriend is having a problem with her boiler, its a glowworm compact 80t, im not sure if this is an old one or not but it seems to look new.

Anyway the problem is that the boiler just keeps cutting off and refusing to light, even when the pilot light is lit.

She has a plumber coming round to look at it but hes scratching his head a bit, sometimes he'll come remove the casing and hey ho it works again! but only for a short time, He said hes not done anything to it really and it'll just work after removing the casing and cleaning the fan!?! I dunno what that means

Hes not charging as hes a friend as such but hes unsure as to what the problem could be, he doesnt want to start relpacing parts at a cost if theres little chance they could be the problem.

Can anyone advise as to what to try/replace/buy/look at instead?

Thanks all.

well I aint no expert either, but if this chap doesn't know what he's doing and isn't a corgi registered guy I would suggest getting someone in who is!

that said hopefully someone on here will be able to shed some light...

From what has been said so far it sounds like a venturi or APS problem.

A job for a CORGI ( boiler engineer ) rather than a "plumber".

compacts can be a bit prone to a poor connection on the pcb, you drop the front panel down and off she goes. take the cover off the board and push all the coonections on tight.

wow thanks for the great response guys, seems like i could be here for a while. Personally ive just moved into an old house that needs some serious modernisation! If anyone is in the Chesterfield area and would like some work? ie full central heting system, walls knocking down n putting up, chimney breasts removing etc then please get in touch! =)

Ill give these comments to the 'plumber' well apart from the corgi bit, not sure if he is so he may take offense heh =)

Thanks again!

Foz.
