i have a glowworm fuelsaver mk 2 which cuts out when asked to fire up, the pilot light will stay lit until you ask to fire it up, then it will go out it fires up for 5 secs then cuts out any ideas

Not necessarily, the pump could have failed causing it to go to overheat which cuts off the pilot.
Ok granted it could be the pump 
Failing that get an RGI out !!

If it thumps and bangs on light up ,it means pump has gone ,
Just what I was thinking but gave the benefit of doubt for the pumpIs 5 seonds really long enough to send this to overheat, even though it is a low water content boiler
weak/dirty pilot, main burner causing f/lift on pilot, tc dropping out

Thats reason why was asking if it thumps and bangs, 5 secs seems too quick for either possible fault
Thx for the replys , but the pump seems to be running ok......even when the flame has dropped out...
IMO its the boiler which needs a good look @ but like I said youll be better off getting a RGI out
