The Govt have refused to bail out LDV saying they are not prepared to bankroll a millionaire.

Fair enough.

Why then did they agree to a finance package to help J/ LR?

After all, Tata bought the company knowing full well its position.

Why aren't they asking their government for financial aid?

Why didn't they help the construction industry. A lot lot more than 6000 lost jobs here but not a squeak from gov or anyone else.
I suppose thats because all the tradesmen are all doing jobs on the side now!
Aye right!

speaking as a taxpayer, I've had enough of lobbing my money at businesses that are going bust. There seems to be no end.

Anyone here used to work in the shipbuilding industry? Or steel? Or (most) car factories? Or a butcher's, bakers or sweet shop? A brickworks? A typewriter repair business? A photo develop and print lab? Where was the taxpayer handout for them?

Forgeting the seventies then johnD where tha car industry /steel industry/ship yards amongst others milked this country of an absolute fortune and brought the country to its knees

The government are helping Jaguar Landrover, because they may have a future and are actually capable of producing reasonable vehicles that can be exported to earn foreign currencies for UK PLC.

LDV on the other hand produce shhiite vans that nobody wants (how many tradesmen on this site own one?).

I drive an LDV. :( Have it since new 18 months ago.
Yes your right its a shi@te van. I wish they had gone bust a few years ago and I might be driving someting better.
