Very possible, if you try to take too much heat from the ground via the collector loops/slinkies you stand a good chance of turning the ground into permanent block of ice (Permafrost)
It wouldn't take the mains supply very long to become a very big lollipop.
There are rules about how far the mains should be away from the collectors, and I'm damned if I can remember, at a guess I would say 2m plus.
