Hello any help is really appreciated. Thanks in adavance

Ive just changed over a number of sockets and light switches. All went well. The one im having a problem with is my hall switch. Its a double swicthed front. One of the switchs controls my down stairs hall light the other operates a landing light. The landing light also has a switch upstairs.

ON THE BACK OF THE LIGHT SWITCH
theres 3 terminals at the top L1 L2 L3

and 3 termials at the bottom L1 L2 L3

also earth terminal.

I HAVE 5 CABLES ( + 2 but I know where they go )

1 black 1 red (slightly thicker core)
1 blue 1 red 1 yellow ( slightly thinner core )

Ive tried swopping like for like but now it seems i can only get one or the other light working. Thanks again for help and advice.

Use your multimeter to identify the following:

1) Which L1/L2/L3 go together

2) Which are the permanent and switched lives for the lights in question.

Armed with that, and the diagram of 2-way light switching in the For Reference/Wiki you should be OK.

Yes - nip down to Maplin/BnQ etc and buy one - they are only a few pounds and essential if you are going to do any sort of basic electrical work.

Dude - Dave is right. In just the same way that you would not have dreamed of doing this job without appropriate screwdrivers, thinking you could get away with using the point of a knife, a multimeter becomes an essential tool once you start doing anything with your electrics.

Ok thanks guys, I will get one over this week end. Then get back to you if i get a little stuck. Ur helps always appreciated. Cheers.
