hi all, i hope you can help me :D

i had a halstead ace boiler installed over 3 years ago. every year we have had problems, 1, replacing the pcb. 2, some type of pin im afraid i dont know where.

and now the central heating is perfect but over the last week the DHW seems to get tepid then really cold.

after investigating, the boiler fires up ok for about 10-15 seconds then stops. i have put the DHW temperature on max and still its tepid.

i think im confusing myself and probably you

anywayz, i was wondering if you could give me some advice as to what the problem might be so that i have a rough idea what the engineer is talking about when i call him

thanks in advance

:P

Boiler going on - off - on - off on hot water is usually to do with dirt in the system. If combis are put in without making sure the system is clean and has rust inhibitors in it, that's what happens - regardless of make.

It's to do with water circulation and heat transfer. Sludge in there slows circulation, and insulates heat exchangers and sensors, so bits of boiler overheat and switch off before the water's got the heat.

Discussion will probably revolve around you heat exchanger which heats the tap water using the system (boiler) water. That's called the plate h/e, the secondary h/e, or the domestic hot water h/e. Its the stainless steel thing which looks a bit like a wafer.

It would be a good idea to take it out and inspect/descale it, and then leave the system running with a system cleaner in it, for say a week, then flush it out as well as possible before ptting inhibitor in. A power flush would do a better job, but cost a lot more.

Other things are possible, such as a dud sensor or slow running/clogged up pump. Your man may not get it right first time!

thank you for the quick response ChrisR. i know when it was installed an inhibitor was put in for the radiators etc.

once again thankyou

:D
