We have a Halstead ace High which has been working fine for a couple of years and has been serviced regularly. Recently we lost our hot water, the plumber who came out changed the exchanger and then it started locking out. It turned out that the venturis had melted, so he changed them for new ones which immediately melted again (24 hours). The next thought was the temperature was set too high and the pump wasn't running efficiently so was swapped out for a second hand unit. We next had a probem where the hot water would keep dropping out for short periods (hot/cold/hot/cold and so on). The next thought was it was overheating so kept tripping then re-setting so the temperature was turned down further, we now have hot water if we don't run it at full speed but it isn't as hot as it used to be. Finally we now have the boiler locking out every night at 5pm when the timer kicks it back on.

We are getting frustrated and showers are an adventure, any help would be appreciated.

Has the secondary heat exchanger been checked?

Are you sure your "plumber" is CORGI registered?

It certainly souinds as if he is not very competent at diagnosing boiler faults!
