Hi,

Well, its Easter Day and my Boiler has died. There is no light on the front. Have checked the plug, fuse and socket and all is okay there. Had a look at the main PCB and can't see any blown fuses or burnt components although there is a wiff of something burnt out. Any ideas?

Any help appreciated as its a bit chilly here and guests due in a couple of hours :(

Thanks,
Chris

check where the wires come in to the boiler make sure there is 240 coming into the boiler. There maybe a 1amp quickblow glass fuse on the pcb.check the mi

You dont say how you have "checked" the bits!

In your case the only relevant test is to measure the voltage with a multimeter. At the inlet to the boiler and if not present then back at the various points of the supply.

A neon screwdriver is NOT suitable by the way!

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I checked the 1A glass fuses and these were intact. The power source is to a plug socket and i plugged something else in here to check that it wasn't the socket. I also replaced the fuse in the boiler plug to check that was all okay, which it was.

I didn't check the voltage coming in. Presumably i can check that at the PCB end?

Thanks,
Chris

If the power in is OK between live and neutral then it sounds as if the PCB is failed!

Can you check the resistance of the primary of the mains transformer?

They usually have a thermal fuse burried in the winding and this can go open circuit.

Well, you're spot on. The gas man turned up today from the insurers and informed my wife the pcb needed replacing. Fortunately i won't have to potter about with this now.

Thanks for all your help!

Cheers,
Chris

The only way to check a fuse is by measuring the continuity with a meter!

Its no good just looking and thinking you can see a wire because they sometimes come out of the end!
